Swiss Luxury Watch Brand - BEDAT & C⁰

Hi Huneybees,

Recently, I was at the launch of BEDAT & C⁰ .  In conjunction with Wisma Atria's unveiling as a mall dedicated to luxury timepieces, Swiss luxury brand BEDAT & C⁰ exhibited their signature collections and Novelties 2012 collection inspired by the Art Deco movement.

BEDAT & Co, a Swiss watchmaker, achieved prominence through its intricacy in craftsmanship and purity of style. Our commitment to and collaboration with the best ateliers of Switzerland’s Jura Valley insures that the BEDAT & C⁰ brand maintains the highest standards of master horology.

On October 8th 1996, Christian and his mother Simone Bédat found BEDAT & C° and in 1997 , they present their first collections at the Basel Show: N°3, N°7  Ref. 304 and Ref. 314 are an immediate success and are still the best-selling models to this day. BEDAT & C° was one of the pioneer on diamond setting in steel case.

The watches are named by numbers and you ask: "Why Are The BEDAT & C° Watches Called By Numbers?"

The names of the collections were an integral part of this approach and were chosen to reinforce these values. Each number corresponds to a philosophy or a specific aesthetic appearance.

Within the watchmaking world, watch names are rarely consistent with the timepiece itself or with the brand. That is why all BEDAT & C° collections carry numbers. Representing a unique phenomenon within the watch business, this naming principle gives the watch lines a definite form of cohesion.

In addition, In addition, numbers offer many other advantages in that they are easy to memorize, universal and pronounceable in all languages. Moreover, they embody powerful symbolism. For example, the figure eight, which is both the BEDAT & C° logo and the name of the collection of round watches, is the symbol of infinity. It is often represented by an hourglass.

Timelessness
The numbers do not follow on from each other and are not associated with any particular chronological order. The first BEDAT & C° collection is thus not called N°1, which was created well after N°3 and N°7. At BEDAT & C°, numbers are timeless.

It is impossible to say whether a watch is more recent than another, not only because of their style, but also because of their name.

No 3 Collection features a “tonneau” shape that is curved 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock. The number three symbolizes perfection, totality. Many religions use ternary symbolism: the Holy Trinity, the Wise Men and Jesus’ resurrection three days after his death are just a few of the thousands of examples in the Bible. The “three gems” are the pillars of faith for Buddhists. In the Kabbalistic tradition, three is the unity of all things, the mystery of intellectual initiation.

No 2 Collection is both timeless and resolutely contemporary, two aspects that are complementary and indeed inseparably entwined within the BEDAT & C° philosophy. Embodying the quintessence of the brand values, The new No2 stems from the graphic interplay of two ellipses, a graphic design reminiscent of jewellery.
No 2 stands for union, for the meeting of two connected elements and most specifically in philosophy, for two complementary principles. It is a positive number in the Chinese culture and the ideograms often appear twice in conceiving brand names. It sounds like the word for “easy” in Cantonese. “2” also stands for the Yin, a symbol of femininity and imagination.

No 7 Collection offers various takes on the rectangular shape, curved at 3 and 9 o’clock, encompassing elegant and swiss sophisticated watches. The number seven symbolized eternal life in Ancient Egypt, standing for a complete cycle. It lies at the core of many superstitions and also expresses various stages of maturity and passing generations. It represents thought, hindsight, and awareness. Individuals are led to consider the impact of their actions. The number also conjures up the legendary wonders of the world.

No 1 Collection is square-shaped and curved at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. The figure one is often the symbol of man standing upright, of the beginning, of the point of departure, of the base. It represents the beginning, self-affirmation through action and matter. The 18th century French philosopher Pascal wrote that “the whole universe is contained within Oneness”.

No 8 Collection encompasses original round -shaped cases. It represents sophisticated Swiss watch style and they come in a choice of two appealing sizes design. The figure eight is a universal symbol of perfection and infinity. It is the number of cosmic equilibrium, meaning the order of the universe, the harmony between the earthly kingdom and the heavenly kingdom. The figure eight is the BEDAT & C° emblem. Symbolizing prosperity and luck, it also represents the hourglass and infinity.

Raising a notch in its creativity and artistic achievements, BEDAT & C⁰ novelties 2012 reflect the continual excellence in craftsmanship and exquisite Art Deco designs. The new creations being launch include Ref 823.020.909. This delicate timepiece is the brand’s first creation to offer an interchangeable central attachment, with the choice of alligator strap or milles mailes bracelet.

This charming ladies’ watch is finished with a combination of mother-of-pearl guilloche dial and a unique diamond set at the center, rotating along with the minute hand. It is perfect to represent BEDAT & Co’s feminine traditions, with a round-shaped case decorated by subtle diamonds carefully placed on the central attachment lugs.

The exceptionally intrinsic and dazzling designs of the Haute Joaillerie Extravaganza collection are definitely a joy to behold. Adding an extension to the Extravaganza collection, BEDAT & Co epitomized its Art Deco spirit through the highlights of the stunning Ref 887.

This ever-sophisticated Extravaganza Ref 887 definitely wins the heart of haute-jewellery aficionados with its aesthetic trend-setting design of a radiating floral that sparkles with dazzling diamonds. The unique rotating diamond at its 6 o’clock position sets this piece aside from the rest. Equipped with a mechanical hand-winding personalized BEDAT & C⁰ movement, it ensures that Ref 887 is as much haute horlogerie as it is jewellery.

A watch that I liked is the No. 8 watch that came with an exclusive Bottega Veneta leather strap. Not only does the strap has the signature Bottega Veneta pleats, on the back of the watch also shows that the strap is leather on both side and check out the back of the watch face.
